How I Put Together Outfits for a Brand Photoshoot
Planning a brand photoshoot? Exciting! But if you're staring at your wardrobe thinking, "What on earth am I going to wear?"—don't worry, I’ve been there too. The good news? You don’t need a whole new wardrobe to look amazing. Here’s how I put together stylish, on-brand outfits without spending a fortune.
I Start with What I Already Have
Before hitting the shops, I take a good look at my wardrobe. I lay out some options, snap a few photos, and see what pieces I love. I’m often surprised by how much I already own that fits my brand’s vibe!
I Use Pinterest for Inspiration
Not sure where to start with outfit ideas? Pinterest is my go-to for inspiration. I create a board for my brand photoshoot and pin looks that match my style and brand aesthetic. This helps me identify common themes in outfits I love, making it easier to piece together looks from my own wardrobe or shop for missing pieces with confidence.
I Think About My Brand Colours
My outfit should complement my brand’s aesthetic. I look at my website or social media—what colours show up the most? If my brand is all about warm neutrals, earthy tones are a great choice. If it’s bold and playful, a fun pop of colour makes my images stand out.
I Define My Style
I ask myself: How do I want to be seen? Polished and professional? Warm and approachable? Trendy and unique? My clothing should reflect my personality and make my audience feel connected to me.
I Build a Strong Base
A few classic pieces make outfit planning much easier:
A crisp white tee or button-down – Always fresh and versatile.
A structured blazer – Instantly elevates any look.
High-waisted jeans or trousers – Flattering, elongating, and effortlessly chic.
The vest top – A simple yet stylish layering piece.
The versatile jumper – Works for both casual and polished looks.
The throw-on dress – Easy, effortless, and perfect for quick changes.
The easy skirt – Flowy and flattering, great for multiple styling options.
The smart shoes – A comfortable yet chic pair that pulls an outfit together.
The classic belt – A small but impactful detail that refines any look.
The leather jacket – Adds edge and sophistication to any outfit.
If my basics need a refresh, I check out affordable options at M&S or even larger supermarkets like Tesco’s F&F.
I Shop Smart (If I Need To)
If I’m missing key pieces, I browse second-hand platforms like Vinted or eBay for nearly-new finds. Want a designer touch without the splurge? I use rental platforms like HURR, By Rotation, Swished, or Loan The Look to borrow high-end fashion for a fraction of the cost.
I Don’t Overthink Shoes
Unless my shoot is full-body and outdoors, my footwear won’t be the focus. A couple of well-chosen pairs that complement my outfits are all I need—something neutral and something a little more fun!
Case Study: Styling a Client for Her Shoot
Recently, I worked with a client to plan her brand photoshoot. We hopped on a Zoom call, and I helped her go through the outfits she was considering. It was great to see how many fantastic pieces she already had! From there, we identified any gaps—things she could invest in and wear again.
On the day of the shoot, we ended up bringing four pairs of shoes... but only used one! It was a good reminder that you don’t need to overpack—just a couple of well-thought-out choices will do. As we shot with Nicola, the photographer, I was able to tweak and adjust looks in real time. We experimented with neutrals versus colour, refining each outfit to get the absolute perfect shot. Sometimes, it’s those last-minute adjustments that make all the difference!
On the Day of the Shoot
Here’s what happens:
Outfits are organised – A minimum of three outfits are needed to create variety in the images.
Everything is steamed or ironed – Wrinkled clothes don’t photograph well, so everything is prepped to look polished.
Outfits are chosen for each shot – Sometimes a small tweak—like swapping a neutral top for a brand-colour piece—makes all the difference.
Final styling touches are added – A simple tuck, a layered jacket, or a statement accessory instantly elevates the look.
A brand photoshoot is all about capturing authenticity, confidence, and a strong brand presence. With a little planning, it’s possible to create outfits that not only look great, but also tell the perfect story about a business.
